During my 25 years of teaching, 20 years exploring space at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory for NASA, working for Microsoft Research, and writing hundreds of articles on envrionmental problems, I saw the consequences of teaching that was disconnected from the realities of the world. In my years of teaching, I tried developed a way of opening the minds and hearts of students to, as Thich Nhat Hahn has said, "the sound of the Earth crying." The Deep Teaching Process is my offering to teachers around the world to help them teach more expansively and from a place where the Earth is the center of all lessons. We must recognize that all education is environmental education and we must end the conventional educational principle that all that is human is independent of the natural world.
